Limiting Beliefs

What are the stories you tell yourself? The things you say you’re not…. Not creative, not good with money, not sporty - I could go on. I shared a story on socials earlier this week on my own limiting belief about my creativity. These beliefs are the sneaky thoughts that tell you you don’t have what it takes. The thing with these sneaky thoughts is that they’re often deeply rooted in our subconscious. They stem from past experiences, the pressure of societal norms or even well meaning advice that ends up restricting our perception of our own capabilities. Here’s my #nelslist on how to challenge our limiting beliefs -

1.) Identify them - when do we say ‘I’m not…' - acknowledge them & write them down!

2.) Question them - ask yourself is this belief based on fact or assumption. Often, these beliefs lack evidence and are built on fear or past experiences

3.) Change the way you view them - instead of ‘I’m not…’ try using a more positive statement ‘I can learn’ ‘ I will try’. Simply adding the word YET always helps me ‘ I’ve not reached 1000 followers on Instagram YET’….

4.) And finally (my favourite) Take Action - do the thing despite these beliefs. Start small and build momentum. Prove to yourself that your thoughts aren’t facts.

We all have doubts, don’t let them dictate your life.
